The Daio farm is one of the largest wasabi farm in Japan. In here you can see how wasabi is planted and enjoy the fresh air in a countryside of Japan. The farm is embraced by a big river flowing from the Northern Alps. The fresh water is delivered to the fields by the network of small streams.

Going down the trail alongside the river, you will find a peaceful scene of an old-fashioned wooden water wheel which was constructed here for the film “Dreams” in 1989. You can make a short tour on small boats on the river, it must be an interesting experience for you.

There are so many kinds of wasabi related specialty that you can try in the Farm product shops: fresh wasabi, wasabi paste, wasabi flavored pickles, wasabi soba noodles, wasabi sausage, wasabi chocolate, wasabi ice cream, crackers…

From our hotel Iidaya, it is very simple to go to The Daio Wasabi Farm. You can take the JR Oito line from Matsumoto station to Hotaka Station (30 minutes, 330yen one way, 1-2 trains/hour).

You can easily rent a bicycle for about 300yen/hour from the rental shops right outside the station. The shop will provide you a map in Japanese or English. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the farm by bicycle, you may see some rice fields on the way you go there.
